Ellis L. Marsalis, Jr.
Biography

          Mr. Marsalis is the Director of Jazz Studies Division and holds the Coca Cola Endowed Chair in Jazz. He earned his Bachelor's degree from Dillard University and his Masters degree from Loyola University, both located in New Orleans, Louisiana. Mr. Marsalis teaches Applied Jazz, Piano and Directs the UNO Big Band.
          Professor Marsalis is chairman of the Louisiana Music Commission, a member of the International Association of Jazz Educators, American Federation of Musicians, Phi Mu Alpha, and Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society.
          Professor Marsalis has authored forwards for two publications: The Complete Works of R. Nathaniel Dett, and "Rejoice When We Die," a photographic essay of New Orleans jazz funerals by Leo Touchet (LSU Press). He has performed in numerous local, national, and international venues including the Bern International Jazz Festival, the Victoria (Canada) Du Murier Jazz Festival, the Winnepeg Du Murier Jazz Festival, the Montreaux Jazz Festival, and the North Sea Jazz Festiva.
